Slip and Fall Injury

All types of falls can damage your back. My Family Chiro can diagnose your slip and fall injuries and recommend a course of treatment that will heal those injuries.

Slip and Fall Injuries

Older adults are most at risk for slip and fall injuries. Each year more than 2 million adults receive emergency room treatment for falls. About 70 to 80 percent of those falls do not result in any significant visible injury, but that does not mean the fall was without injury. All falls can result in back pain, severe headaches and herniated discs as well as pain in the shoulders, arms and legs.

While it may be tempting to wait and see if the injury heals on its own, our chiropractor recommends getting an initial evaluation to determine the extent of your injuries. If injuries are found, our chiropractor can recommend a treatment program to reduce your pain, increase your range of motion and shorten your recovery time.

Initial Evaluation and Injury Diagnosis

If you have recently fallen in a store, parking lot, at work or at home, it is in your best to get evaluated. Our chiropractor in St George can assess your injuries after your fall. We utilize physical examinations and medical histories as well as x-rays to determine the extent of the injuries causing your pain, inflammation, loss of range of motion and headaches.

We will be checking for misaligned vertebrae, injured ligaments and tendons, as well as any herniated discs. Once the evaluation is over, we will explain your injuries to you and recommend a noninvasive treatment program.

Chiropractic Treatment for Falls

Chiropractic treatment is effective for healing musculoskeletal injuries that occur after a fall. We offer chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic massage, rehabilitation and dietary counseling services as well as many other noninvasive treatment options.

Chiropractic adjustments are designed to position your joints back into their proper locations. When the vertebrae or extremity joints become misaligned, they move incorrectly. You may not notice the incorrect movement, but the soft tissues surrounding the joints do notice, and they can become easily injured if they are allowed to continue moving incorrectly.

Therapeutic massage compliments chiropractic adjustments. The massage makes the adjustments more comfortable. Massage also helps reduce localized inflammation and pain.

Studies have shown that weak core and extremity muscles can contribute to falls. This is because the muscles are unable to properly support the skeletal system. Physical rehabilitation strengthens weak muscles so that they can support your body.

Proper nutrition also helps decrease healing times. A diet of fast food or prepackaged food does not give your body enough vitamins or minerals. Individuals on high calorie, low nutrition diets often feel sluggish, tired and mentally foggy. Eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet improves energy levels, speeds up cellular regeneration and decreases recovery times.
